Next year’s biggest release has large shoes to fill. Here are 5 things from the book I’m excited to see!

I have complete faith that the impending Dune sequel will be amazing. The director, Denis Villeneuve, has never set a foot wrong. From Incendies to Sicario, Arrival to Blade Runner 2049, he never wastes our time. But the novel, DUNE is complex and expansive and leaves a lot of room for interpretation. These are five things from the second half of the book that I am looking forward to see how the filmmakers handle.

  1. How Will They Portray Paul’s Time Awareness?

In the novel Frank Herbert does a great job explaining how Paul Atreides sees through time, building an image of time as a landscape: you can see the mountain tops but not the valleys. Will we get flash-forwards coupled with expositional narration or (as I’m hoping for) an immersive visualization of Paul’s gift where events are splayed out on undulating spacetime? How would that work? What would it look like? I don’t know…I see it in my head when I read the book and I am anxious to see how ambitious the…
