5 Things to Watch for in Dune 2

Next year’s biggest release has large shoes to fill. Here are 5 things from the book I’m excited to see!

I have complete faith that the impending Dune sequel will be amazing. The director, Denis Villeneuve, has never set a foot wrong. From Incendies to Sicario, Arrival to Blade Runner 2049, he never wastes our time. But the novel, DUNE is complex and expansive and leaves a lot of room for interpretation. These are five things from the second half of the book that I am looking forward to see how the filmmakers handle.

1. How Will They Portray Paul’s Time Awareness?

In the novel Frank Herbert does a great job explaining how Paul Atreides sees through time, building an image of time as a landscape: you can see the mountain tops but not the valleys. Will we get flash-forwards coupled with expositional narration or (as I’m hoping for) an immersive visualization of Paul’s gift where events are splayed out on undulating spacetime?
