As I have become a more proficient writer I have begun to notice patterns in the stories I tell. I don’t plan it this way but some elements just keep showing up.

These are things that I either believe in or fear, things that are elemental to the way I think.

The one that arrived today, without being sent for; it just occurred in the course of the story, is the transformative power of music. The way it can change minds and catalyze events.

In nearly every story I’ve written there is at least a scene if not a major plot point built around the potential effect of music on individuals and groups.

The basic plot points for this story have existed since 2003 but new pieces are bound to emerge as it moves between the major set pieces and there is something reassuring about getting to know my own identity as a writer through reading my own work.
